The November 2002 Comedy Conference took place in Palm Springs California.
Approximately 100 comics attended. Attendees chose four workshops to attend during the conference. In addition, each person had the opportunity to do standup for the attendees and our faculty “judges”.
Each comic had 2 minutes to "showcase" for the VIP’s. There were Friday and Saturday evening showcases and Saturday and Sunday afternoon showcases. My spot was 8th on the Saturday evening line-up.
Go to the VIP comments to see notes grouped by the attending faculty, their comments about my stand-up and my impressions of them.
The California Journal provides some anecdotes from the California weekend including events leading up to and surrounding the conference.
The exhilaration from all that transpired while I was in California inspired the website domain name. Why like a carp tells the story.
Highlights:
| Meeting several very nice and very talented comics, actors, writers, producers and agents-some you will see on this site. | |
| Attending the workshops presented by Rick Overton and Mindy Sterling. Sharing air and ideas with these wonderful souls did a great deal for me. | |
| I’m happy to say I’ve been adopted into the Dallas Comedy Mafia or "Family". I met the first of the Dallas talent, Jason James, after we both showcased Saturday night. We had a great talk and discovered we both have resided in Minnesota and Texas. Jason is a bright rising star, www.jasonjames.biz. Thanks to the very talented Sonya Calooy for extending the invitation to "the family". Her site: www.sonyacalooy.com The Dallas family is comprised of several very talented pro comics residing where the stars at night are big and bright--even in the city. | |
| I found out there are two more tall funny women. One Alex House is 5'11" (my
height), and
Rebecca Arthur is 6’ 4".
We plotted a way to work together-- working title: Amazon
Women Trio. More later, as
the idea grows - this is just to heighten your curiosity. Send your tall comic requests to: dawnis@likeacarp.com. See Rebecca's site: www.tallcomic.com | |
| A promoter inquired about me performing at a Comedy Festival in Arizona. Alex House, one of the Amazon Trio, headlined for their show last year. Maybe the Amazon trio can debut here? |
